Low-Sew Crochet Panda Free Pattern

Want a super fun pattern that sells well at markets and is also low-sew, for FREE? Well, you found one! This pattern is nearly beginner friendly, and a faster workup since only the ears and muzzle have to be sewn on. Everything else is crocheted into the project as you go!

Materials:

  • Weight 6 yarn in black and white
  • 14 mm eyes or eyes to match the size of the project
  • Small black nose or black thread to embroider nose on the panda
  • 6 mm hook
  • Stuffing 
  • Scissors 
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • MR - magic ring
  • inc - increase
  • dec - decrease
  • R - round 
  • (#) - final stitch count
  • dc - double crochet
  • FLO - front loop only
  • BLO - back loop only
  • sl. st. - slip stitch
  • FO - fasten off

Arms, in black

Make 2

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)

R2: (sc, inc) x 6 (9)

R3-7: sc around (9) stuff lightly

sl. st. across to close the gap for the arm

 

Muzzle in white

R1: 4 sc in MR (4)

R2: inc x 4 (8)

R3: (sc, inc) x 4 (12)

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing

 

 

Ears in black

Make 2

R1: 6 dc in a MR (6)

FO leaving a long tail for sewing

 

Feet, in black

Make 2

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)

R2: inc x 6 (12)

R3: BLO, sc around (12)

R4-5: sc around (12) On the 2nd foot, finish the last stitch with white.

Fasten off the 1st foot you make, and no need to leave a long tail. DO NOT fasten off the 2nd foot you make. We will be going straight into the body with the 2nd foot. 

 

Body

Continuing in white and with the 2nd foot:

R6: ch 2 on second foot. Place stitch marker on the 1st chain as this is the 1st stitch of the round. Attach this foot to the 1st foot using the images below:

Step 1: (this is showing the ch 2 on the second foot you just did to start R6)

 

Step 2: Insert hook into a stitch on the foot that you fastened off. 

 

Step 3: Attach with a single crochet.

Sc around. When you get to the chain 2, place one sc in each chain and continue on. You should end with 28 stitches. (28)

R7: sc around (28) Be sure not to miss the 1st stitch after the chain two where you attached the feet together. If you skip this stitch on accident, you’ll end with 27 stitches.

R8-13: sc around (28)

Begin stuffing

R14: switch to black, sc around (28)

R15: sc around (28)

R16: (2 sc, dec) x 7 (21)

R17: 5 sc, 4 sc with arm and body together, 6 sc, 4 sc with arm and body together, 2 sc (21)

   

R18: (sc, dec) x 7 (14)

Switch to white. Do NOT cut the black. We will be moving into the head now.

R19: FLO, (sc, inc) x 7 (21)

R20: inc x 21 (42)

R21: sc around (42)

*underlined stitches going forward are to be done in black*

R22: 21 sc, 3 sc, 5 sc, 3 sc, 10 sc (42)

R23: (2 sc, dec) x 5, sc, sc, dec, sc, sc, dec, sc, sc, dec, sc, sc, dec, 2 sc, dec, 2 sc (32)

R24: 16 sc, 3 sc, 3 sc, 3 sc, 7 sc, (32)

R25: sc around (32) Cut the black.

R26: (2 sc, dec) x 8 (24)

Place eyes between R23-24 about 5 stitches apart.

Stuff

R27: (sc ,dec) x 8 (16)

R28: dec x 8 (8)

FO and sew hole closed with the tail

 

Assembly:

Sew muzzle on in the middle of the eyes between R19-22.

Sew ears 4 stitches behind the eyes on R22-24.
